India Women’s South Africa Tour Expanded with Three Additional T20Is Ahead of Champions Trophy

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced a revised schedule for India’s women’s tour of South Africa later this year and the series will feature three T20 Internationals. The extended tour will include one Test, three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20Is – providing both teams important match practice ahead of the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy to be held in February 2027.

The tour originally comprised a warm-up game, three ODIs and a one-off Test between December 6 and December 23. As per the revised itinerary, the Test will now be held in Gqeberha first from December 9 to 12. From 16 December, the ODI series will follow before the newly minted T20I series wrap up the tour on 26, 29 and 30 December. The rejigged calendar gives an extra week of stay for India in South Africa.

These three ODIs will also be in ICC Women’s Championship, the qualification route for 2029 Women’s ODI World Cup. Matches were played in Paarl, Cape Town and Bloemoefontein. The T20Is will be the hit and giggle being played in Benoni and Potchefstroom around the festive holiday.

A key change is removing the women’s Test in Gweberha from overlapping with South Africa men’s Test against England, which should receive attention towards both fixtures.

In the last few years, India Women vs South Africa Women rivalry has become more and more intense. Earlier this year, South Africa beat India 4-1 in a T20I series at home, before the Proteas crushed India’s hopes of making the semifinals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England with another vital win.

CSA Chief Executive Officer Pholetsi Moseki said the new dates were “fantastic news”, adding that facing India across all formats will serve as ideal preparation for the mega event in ICC Women’s Champions Trophy. He also stated that with the series being a long format one, it is great for both teams to face each, even though India remains as solid as ever in women’s cricket.

South Africa’s home season is shaping up to be among its busiest with bilateral internationals being confirmed for both the men’s and women’ sides, although it has also opened negotiations about scheduling Australia’s women’s tour which are still in the early stages.
